Dear SEAS Faculty and Staff,
Please see Provost Blake's message below expressing his appreciation for everyone who contributed to our virtual commencement activities. I agree with him - a lot of people went the extra mile to make our graduates feel celebrated, and they (and their families) really appreciated it, as did I.
---------- Forwarded message ---------
Though Commencement this year was not what anyone expected, faculty and staff across the university went above and beyond to make all the various celebrations exceptional for our graduates. From the main Commencement ceremony on May 17th to all the school and college ceremonies, our graduates were made to feel very special, and their many accomplishments recognized, despite not being able to graduate on the National Mall or with their classmates in their school or college ceremonies. Social media was flooded with the proof: there were countless photos and videos of happy graduates celebrating at home with their families. The #GWCommencement hashtag on Twitter is worth browsing, if you have not taken a look yet.
The creativity and dedication of the GW community made this possible. I want to extend my deepest thanks to the faculty and staff in each of your respective schools and colleges who worked so hard under very difficult circumstances to make Commencement 2020 an occasion to remember. Please pass along this note of thanks to all those who worked on your respective graduations. And as always, my gratitude to all of you for your tireless leadership during these unprecedented times.
M. Brian Blake, PhD
